Protecting our cats & families
Our Policy
Our policies exist to protect the health of our cats, the privacy of our young family, and fairness for every family on our waitlist. Thank you for taking the time to read them.
- 1
Before You Reach Out
Most questions are answered on our website and FAQ page, so we recommend reading through them first. That lets us spend our reply time on the questions that are specific to you and your family.
- 2
Application & Availability
Our application is for families ready to join our paid waitlist. If you'd prefer not to join the waitlist, please keep an eye on our Ragdoll Kittens For Sale page - if a kitten becomes available after waitlist selections, an individual inquiry form will be provided for that kitten.
We do not believe in declawing.
- 3
Deposits
All deposits (waitlist and kitten reservation) are non-refundable. They secure your place and reflect a mutual commitment, so we ask that you only place a deposit once you're fully ready to welcome a River Haze Ragdoll home. If you're unable to proceed, the deposit is forfeited.
- 4
Health & Bio-Security
To protect our cats and kittens from outside illness, and to keep our family home private, we don't offer home visits - including for local families or before a commitment is made. Instead, we share professional photos and detailed descriptions of every kitten, and videos when time allows. All hand-offs take place at a pre-arranged location: our veterinary office in Basking Ridge, Upper Saddle River, NJ, or Newark Airport (EWR) for families flying in or using a flight nanny.
- 5
Pricing
To keep things fair for every family on our waitlist, our pricing is fixed and not negotiable. We're happy to offer a $500 multi-kitten discount for families keeping siblings together. We reserve the right to decline any application.
- 6
Communication
Our business hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM (closed weekends and holidays). We reply within 2 business days - we'd rather give you a thoughtful answer than a rushed one.
- 7
Pick-up Timeline
All pick-ups take place during business hours. Once your kitten is ready to go home, there is a 2-week grace period for pick-up. After that, our boarding rate of $65 per night applies (every 7th consecutive night is complimentary). Please only apply and reserve when the timing works for your family.
- 8
Deposits Are Per Kitten
Every kitten requires its own non-refundable deposit. Waitlist families place a $500 waitlist deposit for each kitten they hope to adopt, and each deposit holds one waitlist position. Families reserving a kitten listed as available on our website place a reservation deposit for that specific kitten.
- 9
Waitlist Selections
For waitlist families: when it's your turn to select, we'll contact you by email. Please respond within 48 hours; if we don't hear back, we'll move to the next family and you'll keep your place for the next litter. You may pass once on a litter (for example, to wait for a certain color or to keep siblings together) and keep your position. Kittens not chosen during waitlist selections are then listed as available on our website.
- 10
Final Payment
For every kitten, whether chosen from the waitlist or reserved as an available kitten, the remaining adoption fee plus 6.625% NJ sales tax is due in full before your kitten goes home. Payment details are shared with approved families.
- 11
Pet Homes Only
All River Haze kittens go home spayed or neutered and are placed as companion pets only. Kittens are sold without breeding rights.
- 12
Indoor Only, No Declawing
River Haze cats are to be kept indoors (supervised outdoor time in a carrier or enclosed space is fine) and must never be declawed.
- 13
Rehoming
If you are ever unable to keep your River Haze cat, at any age, please contact us first. We will help find the right home or take them back. River Haze cats must never be surrendered to a shelter, sold, or given away without contacting us.
- 14
Health Guarantee & Veterinary Care
Every kitten comes with a 72-hour health guarantee and a 2-year genetic health guarantee, as outlined in your written sales agreement. Any health concern should always go to your veterinarian first. If your vet finds something that may be covered by our guarantee, contact us with their findings and we'll work through it with you under the terms of your contract.
- 15
Retired Cats
The same policies apply to our retired cats. Each retired cat's adoption fee is listed on their profile, plus 6.625% NJ sales tax.
